Leading Center of Excellence

The University of California, San Francisco Depression Center  is renowned as one of this country’s premier academic depression centers offering state-of-the-art psychiatric care while leading the way in research and education.  The Center includes a distinguished group of clinical and research faculty. Thanks to them, the Center enjoys an outstanding reputation in clinical care, research and education.
The Center is one of 15 academic centers in the United States selected to  form a National Network of Depression Centers in 2007.   This Network aims at enhancing research, developing collaborative investigations, and promoting distribution of best practices for depression treatment.   The Network also focuses on decreasing stigma so that treatment of depression can become more available to those who need it.    The Center is a major clinical referral center, attracting patients from a broad area and treating some of the most complex and difficult cases.  With the inclusion of faculty from all of schools of UCSF, ranging from internists, pharmacists, and nurses to psychiatrists and psychologists, this collaborative environment leads to multidisciplinary research and multifaceted clinical care and education.

 

Education and Training that Prepares the Caregivers of the Future

Participants in UCSF’s highly regarded psychiatric residency, psychology fellowship, and nursing training programs receive extensive education in the Depression Center.  The Center plays a key role in shaping the career of many future mental health caregivers.
